Hearts Around the World, Inc. to sponsor international cardiac education.
The mounting cost of health care and the growing numbers of under-served
international clinics has challenged Dr. Robert Jarrett for years. A
long-time teacher and mentor for cardiologists overseas, Dr. Jarrett
knew that there had to be a way to cut overhead costs in order to provide
doctors with the very best medical training. Jarrett was convinced that
the model he developed when working in St. Petersburg, Russia provided
him with a rubric of how to proceed in other countries. In Russia over
the course of 15 years, he forged a close, respectful relationship with
the local doctors and administrators of St. George’s Hospital. This led
to the development of a first class cardiac clinic.
Dr. Jarrett was also successful in obtaining donated medical equipment to bring
the level of care far above that of any other clinic in Russia. Today, St. George’s
Hospital can provide excellent care to the people of St. Petersburg and instruction
to other doctors in Russia. In this way, the goodwill and support organized by
Dr. Jarrett and his team have a much greater impact on the whole of the nation.
That is the model that Hearts Around the World wishes to replicate in other nations.
Dr. Robert Jarrett and his wife Menoo Afkari-Jarrett, have used their
international experience and expertise to establish a more streamlined
and efficient organization. The most important quality of a highly effective
not-for-profit organization is its ability to maintain low overhead and
operating expenses. Dr. Jarrett and Menoo Afkari-Jarrett pledged to keep
these expenses to an absolute minimum so that almost 100% of every dollar
donated to Hearts Around the World will be used for its programs. “We
expect to get all of the necessary services and medical supplies donated,”
states Dr. Jarrett. According to Menoo Afkari-Jarrett, “Hearts Around
the World, Inc. will operate from the Internet so that we won’t have
rents, salaries or other major operating expenses. We already have recruited
great people to handle the legal work, the accounting and communications
at no cost to the organization.”
